Text Links for Hope (Child’s Play Charity Fundraiser) by in Opinion / November 27th, 2007
Well, the holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time to support the Child’s Play charity, run by the fantastic gents at Penny Arcade. Since last year’s nude tap dancing webcast was a bit of a bust [rimshot!], we here at PTTBT have decided to try a new approach for 2007: we’re going to pimp out our website.
Here’s how it works: click the button on the sidebar to donate (all proceeds go to the charity). When donating, enter a word or phrase, and then a URL you want it to link to. We will then integrate your word or phrase into the content of a story at PTTBT, and link it to the URL you provided. You buy your keywords based on frequency, at $5/use. We reserve the right to take several weeks to execute large orders, or words relating to math.
And the catch? You have to make your magic word something odd. Remember, we’re going to have to seamlessly blend it into whatever we’re writing, so if you write “spotted flamingos in heat”, that’s going to be much more painful for us than “George Bush”.
We realize this will break the semantic web, but think of the children, won’t you?
So if you’re game, clickez-vous on the donate button, and then watch us squirm.

Just so you know, the next 5 instances of the word “insipid” have now been purchased. And I can’t think of a more appropriate site to point to!

So… who bought corrugated?

Thus far, we’ve had “insipid”, “moose paw” and “dandruff” picked up. Corrugated is not as popular as I’d have thought… it’s funny how nonsensical our readership is :\

Drat. I’ve never submitted the required blood samples, life history, etc. to PayPal, nor have I concocted an alter-ego with a bank account so that PayPal never mistakenly freezes all my assets until they complete their investigation (ETA: never) or I’d probably buy a few uses of corrugated.
I don’t suppose there’s somewhere to send unmarked envelopes filled with cash?
Buying entries for ‘Lie algebra’ would be fun, too, though I have a feeling you’d have to use something other than the real meaning, rather than talking about n x n skew-hermitian matrices…

Well I’ll tell you what… I’ve just bought 2 instances of “corrugated”, and you can let me know where to link it.
As for the other one… I think the Geneva convention prohibits us from writing about hermitian matrices without parental consent…

Hmmm… a link for ‘corrugated’ other than to this site itself…
How about one of my favorite online comics?

With any luck, it will completely mystify the webmaster.
