Arctic Water Levels Dropping by MCM in 1889 / June 15th, 2006

On Slashdot today I saw an article about how Arctic sea levels are dropping, as opposed to rising with the rest of the world. Naturally, a lot of people are confused by this and I think they’ll probably spend billions of dollars trying to figure out why the Arctic is backwards… but I think it’s pretty obvious to most people that there must be some kind of organized Pirate activity in the Arctic at the moment, which is kinda defying global warming and creating a wholly unnatural displacement of water.

Sometimes the news is interesting. Other times it’s just so wonderfully bizarre that you need to base a story around it. Or at least influence a story.

A Month-Long Hiccup by MCM in 1889 / June 13th, 2006

When things go well, life eats so much time that you barely have enough hours in the day to do what you urgently need to get done, let alone the things that are only mostly important. The last month has been truly hellish. I actually don’t remember half of what I’ve done, which is a great sign, I know. It’s like waking up after a night of heavy drinking with a iris-dissolving hangover, and not knowing why you hurt so much. Except it covers roughly 30 days.

What I do remember are some of the nifty things that have come across my virtual desk these past few weeks. I shall attempt to summarize:

The Vector: I am not 100% sure, but I think I may be able to send out preview copies of the book in the next few weeks. The revisions have gone well and I think we’re kicking around the last few things that are _wrong_ with it. If that goes according to plan, I’ve got to figure out where to send preview copies, and how to deal with the responses.

TADC: New fun codename of a new fun project. I may or may not just post it chapter-by-chapter here on the blog. Could be fun that way. So much scarier, though :)

Hope Is Emo: From the maniacs behind Ask a Ninja, Hope is Emo is a really absurdly funny vidcast about a character I swear was photocopied right out of my highschool yearbook. I was in a class with a bunch of teenage poets, so this kind of boiling-over angst is extra funny for me, I think. My second-favourite vidcast, behind the Ninja of course.

World Cup: Japan… sigh. We got up at 5:30am to watch them completely bugger their game. Just watched Brazil/Croatia, and I can already tell that Japan is going to lose all 3 of their games, and we will not get to drink any Japanese beer this time around. On the other hand, the Czech beer from last night was positively brilliant (hence the great hangover metaphors)

Dark Matter: One of the bad bits of news that I’m trying to recover… the vidcast that we were working on, Dark Matter, fizzled when the production guys seemed to get a bit distracted. So I have a very ripened vidcast concept and script ready for someone to develop, if anyone’s interested. CC-licensed, but I think it’s a great opportunity for four actors to take a crack at short, gritty drama on a no-budget basis. Drop me a line if you have any interest in being a producer.

RB: Oooooooh, if I could only show you the stuff that’s been going on. I’m hoping I’ll get permission to brag in a bit. Till then, WOW. And I say that in the sense that I know I had nothing to do with it being this cool.

I’m also working on purchasing a few new t-shirts for myself this summer, as my old stock is… well… old. So far I have on my list shirts from: Diggnation, the Pirate Bay, FSM, and a very Jinx.com-ish UNIX command line shirt I made myself. Any suggestions for nifty yet geeky shirts?

Wowza. This post proves I have no time management skills. I should really learn to say no to myself.
